PORT BLAIR

India is very well noted for its long and tedious freedom struggle. The brave freedom fighters and the grim of the past Indian history can be sought in Port Blair. It is the capital of 350 islands comprising of the Andaman and Nicobar islands too. Located about 1,200kms from Kolkata and Chennai, Port Blair is one of the most beautiful sites on the face of India. The extravagancy in its flora and fauna is very well seen throughout its landscape.  These islands were called “Kalapani” meaning “Black Water”. It is said so because the Indians believe the water is tinted with the blood of the freedom fighters of India.

The sun rise here is an explicit treat to the eye. It rises from the Bay of Bengal. The clear and blue waters depict its serenity and purity in the air. It has a very moderate climate ranging from 20°C to 30°C temperature. This island is said to be a very contradictory place of visit because it has very grime past opposing its natural beauty and heavenly side.
Its major landmark is the Cellular Jail. It is a seven winged national monument where the British convicted the prisoners. In 1897, they laid its foundation stone and was the first jail built in India. It comprises of 698 cells that are solitary in nature to avoid contact amongst the prisoners. Today, only three of the wings are in tact out of the seven octopus – liked wings. As we walk down the aisle, we can hear the echoes of the great freedom fighter Veer Sawarkar and the jailor Berry.

As every island has its beaches to complete it, the same is with Port Blair. The Corbyn’s Cove is located 10kms from Port Blair. It’s the nearest beach and is equipped with an enormous Tourist Complex. The best way to reach the beach is by riding your bicycles. It gifts you with a pleasant scenic view and refreshing fragrances of the flora around.
Getting over to the island’s past, the Ross Island beholds the ruins of old British bungalows. Ruins of churches, ball rooms, bakeries, clubs and dungeons are spread all over its vast landscape. It even roots the gallows that prove its contradiction. The Ross Island is now inhibited by huge herds of deer and the Indian peacock. Bird watching is a very famous activity carried out here. The best time to visit the Ross Island is early in the morning.

The island is embedded with explicit marine life. The Marine Museum also called “Samudrika” has a huge collection of corals, shells and 350 species of marine life. It even showcases the people of the island, the tribes and its archeology. The museum is open from 9am to 12noon and 2pm to 5:30pm except on Sundays and holidays. Those interested in throbbing into the blue canvas of the island, this is the right place for you guys.

Port Blair bears about 242 species of birds, 46 species of mammals and 78 species of reptiles. All of this breath in the dense rain forests surrounded by mangroves that are a part of the sea. This just explains how serene the whole place is and is the best for a refreshment vacation. All of you guys who are stressed with your monotonous, daily routines this is the best option out. Port Blair waits to bust out your stress!!!
