Bocas Del Toro

bocas Located on the northern coast of Panama on the Caribbean Sea, USA is this lovely group of islands. With its lovely tropical weather Bocas makes for a great weekend destination.

You can use airways from Panama City’s Domestic airport to reach the little town of Bocas Del Toro in roughly an hour.

Now, there is a range of accommodation available in Bocas. For budget travellers (as there are many in these times of recession) there is Hotel Casa Max available for $35 a day. If you get a room upstairs you actually get a terrace and hammock all for yourself. For the luxury lovers Hotel Cocomo on the sea is perfect at $60 a day. And for nature lovers Bocas has La Loma Jungle lodge on Isla Bastimentos a 35 minute boat ride from Bocas. These are cabin fully surrounded by the lush green tropical forests and are available for $100 per day including meals and transport.

The foodies will have a great time at Bocas as there is Restaurante Guari Guari which can give you NY style food with local ingredients at local prices. You can also have traditional Caribbean meal of fish, coconut rice, beans and salads at a place called Roots in the town of old bank on Isla Bastimentos. With the food you can either have balboa beer or the local drink called Seco, a clear sugar distilled liquor, with milk.

If you are an adventurous person then you can try snorkelling at Cayo crawl and Cayos Zaptillas. Also boat surfing is quiet fun at Playa Bluff or Playa Wizard. There are also some bars called Mondo Taitu and La Iguana. Nights could be quiet fun at Barco Hundido where u can burn the dance floor or just sit back and relax on the wooden deck.

For shopaholics Bocas doesn’t have a lot to offer. The only shopping spot is an organic farm called “up in the hill”. You can buy locally produced balms and coconut oil from there.

So if you tired of the city life, just take a break hand yourself to the Caribbean sea and relax at this small country town of Bocas del Torro.
